I am the founder and creative director of Sillage. I oversee the overall vision of the brand, from design and fabric selection to image making and storytelling. I am also closely involved in the way the garments are worn and presented.

2. Could you tell us how Sillage first started?
Sillage started from a very personal reflection on comfort, proportion, and everyday elegance. I wanted to create garments that adapt naturally to different body types and lifestyles, while keeping a strong connection to Japanese craftsmanship and manufacturing.

3. How would you position the Essential Collection within the overall brand?
The Essential Collection is really the core of Sillage. It represents the foundation of the brand’s philosophy through timeless silhouettes, refined materials, and pieces designed to be worn daily across different seasons.

The Essential Collection focuses on permanence and versatility. Compared to our seasonal lines, it is less about experimentation and more about refining our signature shapes through fabrics and details that can live in someone’s wardrobe for many years.

5. What is the most important factor you consider when selecting materials?
The feeling of the fabric is always the most important. I look for materials that have character, movement, durability, and comfort. I also pay a lot of attention to how the fabric evolves over time and how it interacts with the silhouette.

Offering one size only was a way to challenge the traditional approach to sizing. I wanted to create garments that feel inclusive and adaptable, where proportions and volume become part of the identity rather than something restrictive.

7. Where do you hide the complexity in your minimalist designs?
The complexity is often hidden in the pattern making and construction. Even if the garments appear simple visually, a lot of work goes into balancing proportions, movement, drape, and functionality so the pieces feel natural when worn.
