The leather sandal brand "Jutta Neumann" was founded in New York in 1994.
The brand name bears the name of the German female designer herself, and due to its overwhelming quality, it is renowned in the industry as the "Rolls Royce of leather sandals."
Additionally, it remains one of the few brands that continue to uphold handmade craftsmanship with dozens of apprentices based in New York.
Born in Germany, Ms. Jutta moved to New York in the mid-1980s and worked as an assistant under a veteran leather craftsman. Utilizing that experience, she opened her workshop and shop, "Jutta Neumann."
Since then, she has continued to create sandals and bags with a focus on handmade leather products.
The most distinctive feature is the arch support that bulges to follow the curve of the foot. This curve is one of the signature details of the brand, crafted by skilled artisans.
As the sandals are worn, areas like the big toe and heel of the footboard sink in, and this arch support further conforms to the arch of the foot, creating a fit that feels custom-made like bespoke sandals.
Additionally, the sole features the lightweight and highly cushioned "Birk sole," custom-made for Birkenstock. The sole can be replaced, allowing for long-term enjoyment and aging.
The outer perimeter of the footboard is carefully nailed by specialized craftsmen. The warmth and craftsmanship of leather sandals made entirely by hand set them apart from others.
We offer three types of leather.
The "Latigo leather," known as a staple at Jutta Neumann.
"Latigo" is a term for horse gear, and it is said to have originated from Native American leather-making methods.
It is a robust leather with a refined sheen and excellent durability, well-oiled for longevity.
"Vegetable-tanned leather," tanned using tannins (tannic acid) extracted from plants like grass and wood.
This traditional method has been passed down in the Tuscany region of Italy since around 1200, resulting in leather with a natural texture and exceptional durability. The more it is used, the deeper the color becomes, allowing for enjoyment of its aging process.
The world-renowned tanner "Horween" produces the "Chromexcel leather." After selecting premium hides, they are tanned using a "combination tanning" method, followed by the application of a special oil blend containing four or more types of fats, including beef tallow, beeswax, plant-based fats, and fish oils, which permeates the leather. This results in the highest quality cowhide, characterized by its supple texture and the unique matte finish of Chromexcel leather.
