2018.04.11 / OTHERS
"Chalk on a blackboard" style recognized in the French art scene, Julien Colombier has collaborated with various famous brands including CHANEL, CARTIER, BACCARAT, and DIPTYQUE. His artwork will be presented on ceramics by ONE KILN CERAMICS, based in Kagoshima, under the curation of THE INOUE BROTHERS... The fusion of Julien's style, which is characterized by painting on black canvas, and Mr. Kido's style, which mixes black ash into the glaze, has been sublimated into wonderful ceramics. To coincide with the launch, Dice and Dice will host a launch party on April 27 (Friday), inviting Julien Colombier, Mr. Kido from ONE KILN, and the curators Satoshi and Kiyoshi from THE INOUE BROTHERS. There will also be a live painting by Julien on that day, and anyone can participate in this event. We hope you will take this opportunity to join us.

Project Birth Story
The design art studio "THE INOUE BROTHERS" was established in 2004 by Japanese brothers Satoshi and Kiyoshi, who were born and raised in Copenhagen, Denmark. The designs they create, born from their love for Japanese delicacy and Nordic simplicity, are referred to as "Scandinasian" design. Their encounter with French artist Julien Colombier, who works based in Paris, occurred in 2015. Sharing the same aspirations, they quickly hit it off and became close friends. Julien, who comes from a street art background, prefers to stay away from the mainstream, except for his love for coffee and cigarettes, typical of a Parisian. His works, characterized by the use of vibrant pastels on black canvases, are filled with uniqueness and stimulation. However, what strongly attracted the Inoue brothers was the freshness of his style above all. In recent years, the Inoue Brothers have been trying to explore their Japanese roots by creating new forms of Japanese folk crafts. In this process, they met Mr. Yusuke Kido from the Kagoshima pottery brand "ONEKILN CERAMICS." His works, which mix traditional techniques with a minimal design concept, beautifully sublimated the local Kyushu pottery culture. One of Mr. Kido's representative techniques is a collection using a glaze mixed with black ash from Sakurajima. When the Inoue Brothers saw that natural color, they were inspired to merge Julien's colorful artwork with that beautiful pottery as a canvas.
Thus, the first collaboration project "Made in Kagoshima" was born.

Julien Colombier
Born in Paris in 1972. His studio and residence are still in Paris, France. Julien began drawing at the age of 2, and his debut exhibition as an artist was in 1993. In 2007, Julien started the "chalk on a blackboard" style, which was recognized in the high-level art scene in Paris. This style was born from graffiti and skateboard culture, which influenced him the most during his youth. It is the origin of the crayon style on modern black canvases. He gained attention as a new style artist in Paris and was approached by Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel, leading to his first collaboration with Chanel in 2011. Since then, he has collaborated with various brands such as Baccarat, Converse, Maison Pierre Frey, Cartier, Bulgari, and Diptyque. Julien's art is all powerfully expressed with motifs of nature and plants or graphic shapes, mixing delicacy with vivid colors.
ONE KILN CERAMICS
Founded in 2008 by ceramic artist Yusuke Kido, who works in Kagoshima. "One Kiln" means "one kiln" and is themed "The Sun to a Table." Based on a refined form created with original molds, it utilizes local soil that he digs and blends himself, as well as glazes made by mixing volcanic ash from Sakurajima, a symbol of Kagoshima, with various minerals, creating original colors and textures unique to the land.
THE INOUE BROTHERS...
Satoshi, the elder brother, was born in 1978, and Kiyoshi was born in 1980. Both were born and raised in Copenhagen, Denmark. The designs born from their love for Japanese delicacy and Nordic simplicity, which characterize "THE INOUE BROTHERS," are called "Scandinasian" design. Satoshi works as a graphic designer based in Copenhagen, while Kiyoshi works as a hair designer based in London. They spend most of their income from those activities on "THE INOUE BROTHERS."
