"How do you say glou glou?” Dice&Dice special Summer Cuvée
Produced by baloriginal and Human Nature
Friday 4th September
At Dice&Dice, we teamed up with "baloriginal" and "Human Nature" to release a special item (available in-store only). We conducted an email interview with Mr. Eda, the designer from "baloriginal", and Mr. Takahashi from "Human Nature". We asked them about the charm of natural wine and their memories.
DD: Can you tell us about your encounter with natural wine?
BAL Mr. Eda: I learned about it a few years ago when more people around me started drinking it. I was surprised that even someone who doesn't typically love wine like me could enjoy it.
HN Mr. Takahashi: I started going to Italy every year since 2008 to visit my Italian friend I lived with in New Zealand, and during that time, my friend got into natural wine, and I began drinking it too.
DD: What is the charm of natural wine?
BAL Mr. Eda: I think the charm lies in its accessibility; even if someone dislikes classic wines, anyone who enjoys alcohol could potentially love it. The fact that various environments, elements, and the personality of the maker all come together miraculously to create the wine is wonderful. The unique label designs are also interesting, reflecting the maker's intentions and tastes, much like a record cover. Additionally, there are variations in quality and taste that allow you to get hooked on your favorite producers, which is also fascinating. On the other hand, the casual aspect of it being just "delicious wine" that you can drink freely is appealing as well.
HN Mr. Takahashi: As I wrote in the zine I created called "here to stay", I am attracted to various aspects. The winery, distributors, liquor stores, restaurants, and drinkers form a community that shares ideas, and the pleasure of wanting to drink something delicious and share it with others is at the core of it.

DD: What is a memorable wine bottle for you?
BAL Mr. Eda: The label design of Louis Julian, which I first used for a T-shirt in my brand bal, was very simple yet attractive. It was the first delicious natural wine I remembered. The "Jérôme Saurigny" 'Salamandre' that I had at the now-closed Uguisu was my favorite red wine I’ve had recently. The label design featured a bold layout of a fire dragon that looked like it was drawn by Kentaro Miura from Berserk, contrasting with the roundness of the light and delicious taste, which was enjoyable. I also have a good memory of realizing that I had overlooked that wine at the liquor store Genpachi in Yamagata a few months ago, and I quickly ordered it on Instagram and was able to obtain it. I want to visit Genpachi again.
HN Mr. Takahashi: The first wine that moved me was the Bianchetto 2012 from Le Cotse, which was recommended to me as "a wine that tastes like cat pee" when I had never had a light yet deep wine before.
DD: Do you have any snacks you often eat with wine?
BAL Mr. Eda: I often eat the ham and cheese that come out at Human Nature Kabutocho. I also like snacks that you would find at an izakaya.
HN Mr. Takahashi: I snack on ham, cheese, and nuts while working at the shop.
DD: If you had to name one snack that is commonly available but actually pairs well with wine, what would it be?
BAL Mr. Eda: It's simple, but I feel that adding a generous amount of delicious 24-month aged Parmigiano to dishes makes everything taste even better. Recently, the green beans that Mr. Takahashi made, which were nicely wilted, were delicious.
HN Mr. Takahashi: Boiled vegetables with salt and olive oil, anchovies, butter, and bread, using the best ingredients possible.
DD: Finally, a message for those who are thinking of trying natural wine!
BAL Mr. Eda: Don't think! Drink (Drunk)
HN Mr. Takahashi: I think it's the best drink to enjoy a fun time around the table with loved ones. People often say wine is complicated, but I believe it's enough to just say, "It's delicious, right?" Everyone has different preferences and feelings, so enjoy your style freely and share that joy with your friends.
