On July 9, 2021 (Friday), the "TDS Niobium Concept 2" 2 WAY Ultimate Outdoor Sandal was released from TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance.

The latest model, which debuted worldwide through a collaboration with Snow Peak, is being released in TDS original colors inspired by the colors of nature, water (NAVY) and earth (TAN) in this 2nd drop. It covers everything from town use to outdoor activities, making it the ultimate pair.

Developed with the concept of Utility & Transformable, TDS's concept shoe "Niobium" follows the boot type announced last year. The "Niobium Concept 2" uses the sole unit of New Balance's best-selling trail running shoe, "FRESH FOAM HIERRO," and can transform into two types: sandal and mule by attaching and detaching the heel strap.
The sole unit adopts "Fresh Foam X," which improves stability and shock absorption with its asymmetrical concave and convex shape, while ensuring flexibility by incorporating various sizes into the honeycomb structure. Additionally, by combining the outsole equipped with "Vibram®'s MEGAGRIP," which ensures excellent durability and grip, it provides outstanding traction even on rough terrain. The open mesh, which is highly breathable, durable suede, and classic geometric patterned webbing tape are all homage to the details of vintage outdoor wear. The FIDLOCK magnetic buckle allows for easy and safe on-and-off even in low visibility or outdoor scenes. Furthermore, the high-brightness reflectors placed on the heel and toe enhance visibility and safety at night.
Fresh Foam X Midsole
The midsole material "Fresh Foam" developed by New Balance aims for "everyone to run easily, comfortably, and smoothly" and has gained popularity for its smooth feel due to its single material composition. Following advanced data analysis, the improved "Fresh Foam X" has been refined with more precise design and adjustments, focusing on high-performance cushioning, allowing for support during long or hard use without compromising comfort. By strategically changing the concave and convex designs on the inside and outside, the structure enhances functionality; the convex design on the inner foot prevents over-pronation, which occurs when the foot rolls inward excessively upon landing, while the concave design on the outer foot enhances cushioning by being more compressible.
Vibram MEGAGRIP Outsole
Vibram's "MEGAGRIP" provides excellent grip with high durability on both dry and wet surfaces. Developed for users who frequently walk on slippery ground, this Vibram "MEGAGRIP" is suitable for trekking and multi-sports, as well as hiking and travel in all seasons.
FIDLOCK Buckle
The buckle made by FIDLOCK in Germany allows for intuitive one-handed operation with magnets, ensuring safety and a secure fit, even in low-light or poor visibility environments.
