I went to see the "Eternal Saul Leiter Exhibition" being held at the Fukuoka Art Museum. Most of the works were taken in New York, where Leiter spent most of his life. Even without an address, I could recognize it from the familiar cityscapes and outlines. The pieces, capturing moments of family, lovers, and everyday life through his unique perspective and framing, felt like stills from a movie, inviting me to imagine the continuation of the story. I enjoyed viewing each piece, savoring its warmth, aftertaste, and imagination.
That night, I went back through my iPhone photo album for the first time in a while. There, the everyday life that had seemed ordinary until a year ago appeared as if it were seen through a vivid filter. If I had seen the Leiter exhibition while living in New York, it might have looked completely different. After moving my base to Fukuoka for a year, I experienced a moment of homesickness for the first time. Because I am not "there," I feel like I can see my deeply personal and beloved New York. This exhibition, which was decided on short notice, was realized in just three weeks because I wanted it to coincide with the Leiter exhibition's duration.
The title of this exhibition, "temporary," is the antonym of the Leiter exhibition title "FOREVER" and reflects my own status as a temporary visitor in New York, a temporary photographer, and that this exhibition is a temporary exhibition held during the preparation period for the next exhibition. It may be presumptuous to draw inspiration from the Saul Leiter exhibition, but if you feel like walking a little more in New York after seeing Leiter's photos, please make your way to Imaizumi's New York. If you haven't seen the Leiter exhibition yet, please do so during its run!

Lunch at Stage Restaurant, the most handsome diner in NY. The long counter is full today as well, and I order my usual menu. The corned beef hash, cooked with a weight pressed down on it, is crispy and fragrant, and delicious as always. I order a refill of thin coffee. R.I.P. Stage Restaurant (1981-2016)
8/20/2013 “DOUBLE PARKING”
A 20ft truck that I occasionally see on the street in front of my house is parked again today. The belly of the truck is the perfect canvas for graffiti artists. I've seen various works, but the humor of a truck on a truck is spot on! on Grand Ave.
2/18/2014 “THE BEST HOME FRIES”
Late lunch at Cup & Saucer in Chinatown. Scrambled two eggs with Italian sausage on the side. The home fries at this place are exceptionally good. Perhaps because the chef is Latino, the spice usage is superb. The hot sauce also pairs perfectly! R.I.P. Cup & Saucer (1940-2017)
3/3/2014 “BREAKFAST ALL DAY”
Before heading to the Metropolitan Museum, I gathered with friends at Lexington Candy Shop for breakfast. There are many diners, but I've never encountered a pale pink table anywhere else. Is there a background that can present a fried egg as romantically and photogenically as this? And today, I can't help but stand up and take a photo.

The "Tom's Diner" that Suzanne Vega sang about is this place. She was a regular during her student days. Sitting by the window, watching people come and go, it feels like I can hear it from somewhere...

As I sit down, a deep green and blue universe spreads out before me. While sipping thin coffee and waiting for my meal, a perfect sunny-side-up egg is served on the diner plate. When I cut into it, the yolk flows out and covers the plate. I finished eating this grand cosmic breakfast and left the shop. @Broadway Restaurant

After a meeting, I hurried to Landmark. With rent skyrocketing, famous restaurants are disappearing one after another in the heart of SOHO, but our emergency diner is somehow holding on. I opened the door praying that I could find a seat. @Landmark Coffee Shop

If there were a contest for identifying NY diners, I would be confident to win. With the tabletop, plates & cutlery, I could almost guess which diner it is. Landmark is super beginner level; I don't know any other place with such a vivid ultra-blue table. Today's waffles & bacon look 30% more delicious. @Landmark Coffee Shop

I was too busy and missed lunch. When I opened the door to Olympic Restaurant at an odd hour, the blinds by the window were closed. The sunlight leaking through the gap creates a clear stripe on the table. Wow, it feels like Edward Hopper's world! R.I.P. Olympic Restaurant (1979-2014)

If you come to Greenpoint, you can't miss Peter Pan. The well-known holy land for donut lovers, the shelf where donuts sit is like an altar. In these times, they continue to make affordable donuts for the people without raising prices much. It makes you want to put your hands together. @Peter Pan Donuts & Pastry Shop

I had to go to the consulate, so I found myself in Midtown after a long time. As I passed by Bloomingdale's, a gentleman who was "just right" crossed the street at the perfect timing. I unconsciously pressed the shutter. He knows he is being photographed.

It's common for subway ticket machines to be broken in NY, but it's rare to encounter an artistic station attendant who turns it into an installation. Applause & Bravo for the masking tape art! @8th Ave/14th St. Station

I learned about Robert Frank's passing on the radio. He was 94 years old. Just the other day, when I bumped into him and said "excuse me," it was him. It was the day after it snowed, and I was wearing a flattened down jacket and boots. I had seen him a few times in the NOHO area where his studio is. He was a great artist who was completely unpretentious and just "around." Rest in peace. on Bleecker St.

After drinking with Miki-chan in the East Village, I went to Rosario as usual. There is nothing more enchanting and delicious than late-night pizza. Of course, I sprinkle pepper on the pepperoni slice. R.I.P. Rosario’s Pizza (1998-2020)

On my way to Pippa's house, I suddenly stopped in my tracks at the sight of a giant Beggie. A classic car parked beside it. When I called out to a young person taking a selfie, I learned that the legendary freestyle battle that Notorious B.I.G. performed at 17 years old happened "right here." I took the A train to Manhattan for the first time in a while. The car I boarded was private, and both the seats and floor were polished shiny, with a strong smell of disinfectant. It was my first time riding such a clean subway. For some reason, I felt uneasy and couldn't sit down. The city is gradually starting to move. But it's still the time of COVID...

On the 20th Independence Day, I decided to go to Coney Island on a whim. Coney Island on Independence Day is as crowded as Dazaifu on New Year's Eve. I had avoided it until now, but once thoughts of returning to Japan started to cross my mind, I wanted to go. As expected, it was horrifically crowded, but there was an overflow of "The America." I'm glad I went. @ Luna Park/Coney Island

In Midtown for the first time in a while, I looked up at the buildings and thought how urban it is. A hot dog cart was parked at the corner of Bergdorf Goodman. The ordinary NY scene feels so dear to me. Less than two weeks until my return to Japan...
