AIR WEATHER SHORT MODS COAT / BLACK

AIR WEATHER SHORT MODS COAT / CHARCOAL GRAY

This material was developed in collaboration with a fabric shop from the past, and it’s not your typical nylon.
We aimed to create a nylon that is somewhat closer to natural fibers.
Strictly speaking, nylon threads don’t have much texture.
Typically, the nozzle produces round fibers, but when the fiber surface has a rough texture, whether it’s natural fibers like wool or cotton, it scatters light and doesn’t shine too much. By expressing that roughness, we created a synthetic fiber that doesn’t feel like nylon or polyester.

For example, the mods coats of that time were made from cotton or cotton-nylon.
Nylon had already been developed back then, but that expression suits cotton items, so when considering how light it is and the interesting way wrinkles and colors appear, we wanted to create something that isn’t a smooth synthetic fiber. We have been developing such threads for a long time, and including previous brands, we have been using this kind of material for about 15 years.
The good thing about nylon is that it doesn’t wrinkle easily, it’s light, and some items have water-repellent properties. However, to prevent the typical shiny look of smooth nylon, we use this kind of thread.

In Japan, during the 90s and early 2000s, companies like Toray, Teijin, Kanebo, and Unichika were leading the world in synthetic fibers. Before development, Japan was superior, but once developed, the same products could be made anywhere, so factories moved overseas, and there’s hardly any left in Japan. This is probably true for Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Wakayama, and Ehime, where factories of synthetic fiber companies have disappeared. This shows how Japanese technology has gone overseas. However, the method of making this (AIR WEATHER fabric) is not very common abroad.

As for the details, we originally had the fishtail design, but I thought it was a bit long, so I cut it off. It was long enough that I felt it could get caught while riding a bicycle, and there was an episode where the string hit the spokes at the back, so I cut it off in recent years.

The material is almost finished in terms of shape, so its good points have hardly been altered.
On the contrary, if we were to do this properly, the number of parts and affirmations would be too many, making it difficult for Japanese factories to handle, so it feels like we are seriously doing it. Conversely, there wasn’t much to remove.
After all, it’s a design that has meaning. I thought it would be better to faithfully reproduce this rather than simplify it, so we have kept it almost intact.

Also, the great thing about this mods coat is that it can definitely be worn for three seasons.
It’s warm enough that you might not need a wool coat, and it’s really convenient during times like now when it suddenly gets cold again in spring.
