The theme of our clothing design at ATON is simplicity and strength.
Simplicity and strength can refer to color, but for us, it relates to the sense of size.
When we talk about size, it doesn’t mean just increasing the dimensions in grading, but for example, with this short mods coat, we increase the width while not extending the length in the same way. We focus on the volume and silhouette of the width and size.

Clothing that emphasizes size requires careful design of the negative space. As this negative space increases, it moves away from the body. The larger silhouette created by the distance from the body and how the fabric or parts move in that space is crucial.
It would be fine if the clothing simply expanded like a stiff metal plate and didn’t move, but when living, we want the bulk to drop down or sway only when we move, which is essential in designing the negative space.

With the short mods coat, especially when viewed from the side and back, the increased width means that the hem moves away from the body. The fabric, due to its structural stability, doesn’t just fall down but instead bounces slightly when you put your hands in the pockets and pull on the coat.
This bounce adds charm; the increased volume allows for a playful movement that isn’t rigid. This is a significant characteristic of this garment, where the material and silhouette create a desired bounce.
