"Uni-ssentials by TDS" is an apparel collection that merges performance and lifestyle, announced by TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance in 2023. It offers fits and styles tailored to the individuality of the wearer, regardless of age or gender, proposing a new level of comfort for everyone while continuously updating the products. The latest SS25 capsule collection further pursues the sense of 'temperature' following last season. It focuses on lightweight and breathable fabrics, providing excellent stretch and flexibility. Each item incorporates athletic design lines to enhance functionality.
What New Balance proposes with "Uni-ssentials by TDS" is the creation of clothing for humans. It is a new collection that experimentally explores the essence of gender neutrality. It fits the natural diversity of gender and allows the wearer to have agency in their choices, becoming a style of its own. The apparel lineup makes no distinction between men's and women's clothing, significantly rethinking traditional pattern making and offering size variations under a single standard. Designed to fit an urban lifestyle that blends the comfort and functionality established by New Balance as an athletic brand with the sophistication required for private wear and the durability needed for exercise activities. It is designed to accommodate various body types, nationalities, and genders, repeatedly conducting fitting tests to pursue the optimal size balance. By eliminating the traditional uniform size grading (length changes per size), individual size pitches have been set so that each item can be worn at the optimal length and width for each size.
It caters to a more diverse body balance that exists between existing sizes. The yellow color applied to the details is inspired by the colors of the Procare Program conducted in the United States in the 1990s (a certification mark from medical institutions and selected footwear specialty dealers), expressing the priorities of "fit" and "quality" in apparel production that are also paramount in New Balance footwear production.
