TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance revives the "Niobium Concept 1" for the first time since the release of the original model in 2020.
Using the sole unit of the bestselling trail running model MT801, the upper features a breathable waterproof eVent® bootie and a mule-type lining that can be swapped to transform the TDS concept shoe "Niobium". Its name comes from niobium, a metal with atomic number 41 and symbol "Nb". With a melting point exceeding that of platinum, niobium has atoms that bond extremely strongly, while its surface treatment gives it a rainbow-like luster, allowing it to be molded freely even at low temperatures, embodying both durability and transformability — its "beauty" and "variability" are expressed in TDS's concept "Niobium". The Niobium Concept 1 transforms into three forms: a waterproof boot that excels in wet conditions and bad weather, an outdoor mule that is easy to put on and take off while on the move, and indoor slippers. Designed as a tool to respond to multiple scenes of modern life, it updates the craftsmanship that New Balance has cultivated over 120 years. This revival release features two new colors: WASHED NAVY, reminiscent of aging, and BUTTER YELLOW, which gives a soft and fresh impression.
