Announcement of the Release of the TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance TDS 574 & Garment Dye Apparel Capsule Collection
2021.04.30 / OTHERS
On May 7, 2021 (Friday), TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance launched a capsule collection featuring 1 model of footwear and 3 models of apparel.
The footwear reinterprets the "574," which was born in the 1980s and has become one of New Balance's most iconic models. The latest model, the "TDS 574," will be unveiled for the first time in the world. While preserving the classic design codes of New Balance footwear, it adds a modern reinterpretation, combining high design quality with the comfort of the latest technology. This is a new, authentic footwear that allows for the discovery of fun styling without being confined to categories like sneakers or dress shoes. Additionally, the apparel developed by TDS, inspired by New Balance's established craftsmanship in footwear, features a collection of garment-dyed heavyweight dry cut-and-sew pieces that balance classic style with the comfort of functional materials. This time, we propose 2 types of tops and 1 type of pants in unisex patterns and silhouettes.

TDS 574
D width /25.5cm - 28.5cm
¥28,000 + TAX

The upper retains the classic design codes of the New Balance 574, based on the structure of the tip (toe), saddle (instep), and foxing (heel), while adopting design details of the edge (cob) used in dress shoes for the double edge (the entire perimeter of the shoe including the heel). Furthermore, the side N logo has been boldly removed, resulting in a neutral and modern look that freely transcends the norms of New Balance footwear. The sole features a newly developed shark sole co-created with VibramR specifically for this model. Not only does it have a bold and modern look, but it also provides excellent slip resistance and cushioning to ensure comfort for urban dwellers in all conditions.

*Vibram shark sole
The shark sole, characterized by its tooth-like shape, was originally worn in America in the 1950s and featured deep grooves designed for practicality on wet surfaces and rocky terrain. By the 1970s, its striking design gained attention in the UK and was adopted across Europe. In this TDS 574, we have developed and adopted a new original design shark sole using the latest technology in collaboration with Vibram.
*New Balance 574
The "576," one of New Balance's representative models introduced in 1988, features a deeply grooved outsole that enhances performance on uneven terrain, demonstrating the potential for running in settings beyond the track. The "574," born from the motif of the "576," has built an unwavering popularity worldwide, boasting the status of one of the most worn and iconic models in New Balance's history.
